Join us in welcoming Yvonne Peterson of the Chehalis Tribe for our May Gathering! Yvonne will be speaking about traditional basketry weaving, the materials used and their cultural significance.
Yvonne is a sixth-generation master basketry weaver. In passing this tradition to her children and grandchildren, she represents eight generations on Chehalis tribal artisans.
“Basketry is really about the language, the songs, the cultural protocol, the passing of information as a gift.” - Yvonne Peterson
Her mother, Hazel Pete, was a matriarch of the Chehalis Tribe and established the Hazel Pete Institute of Chehalis Basketry.
Presentation will be followed by a potluck. Please bring a healthy dish to share.
$5 - 20 Suggested Donation. No one turned away for lack of funds.
